ole-miss-and-memphis2012 participants Shameika Taylor and JaShaela Tunstall have been accepted to, and will attend, University of Memphis and Ole Miss respectively. Both have been admitted to the pre-nursing program.

Shameika was accepted to University of Memphis, her first choice, in September. “I knew exactly what I needed to do to get accepted and as soon as the application was up I applied. I wanted to have everything set early on,” she said about her decision. She further reflected that being at Emory helped her narrow her search and helped get her excited about the process.

JaShaela considered several other options in-state before ultimately deciding on Ole Miss. Her experience at Emory was integral, not just in her own decision-making process, but also in her mother’s. “Not being that familiar with the college process myself, I was glad that JaShaela had had the experience at Emory,” said her mom, “I knew how many other things she would gain from college, not just the degree but the social aspects and the importance of her leaving home and maturing.”

Both girls are currently in the process of applying for scholarships from both their university and outside sources.
