Takeva Hicks ’10

I am 17 years old and a junior at Byhalia High School. I currently live in Red Banks, MS with my mother and younger brother. I have been living here for about 8 years. Before moving to Red Banks, I lived in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Most of my family is also from Holly Springs.

As far as extracurricular activities go, I am apart of the Byhalia High School Beta Club, Family Community Career Leaders of America (FCCLA), and Marshall County Dance Team. I am also the junior class President. Participating in these activities gives me the opportunity to help others and to keep my mind working during leisure time.

I want to go to college because I believe that it will help me to live the life that I want. By going to college, not only will I be able to obtain a good paying job, but I will also learn to be independent. In addition, I will meet a variety of people of different backgrounds.  I believe that participating in this program will help me with some of my senior classes. It will also prepare me for the beginning of my college years, so that I will have a better understanding of what college will be like. This program will allow me to meet a lot of new people and introduce me to life lessons.

Education is very important to my life; I was taught that it is the key to success. With an education, I can go as far as I want in life and nobody can stop me or hold me back. Education is something that one must have in order to go places in life. I know a few people without an education and I do not want to be where they are. I want to succeed and achieve the goals that I have set for myself.
